This book is a manual to those doing Home Health Care and Nursing. Patients are often discharged sooner because of what Medicare picks up, and what Medicare does not pick up. Hence, there is a greater demand for home helots-care services and a large proportion of home health services is provided to Medicare patients. The changes have precipitated the need for practitioners to adapt acute-care techniques to the home care setting. The emphasis is on teaching the client and family members to assume as many self-care activities as possible. These changes not only give professional nurses the opportunity to adapt complex using skills to the home environment, but has increased the need for astute assessment and counseling skills. This is a new and expanding role for the professional nurse. This manual of Home Health Care Nursing was written to fill a gap in the literature on adapting acute-care techniques to the home setting. This book was written within the framework of the nursing process and uses accepted nursing diagnoses to focus each technique. These methods are also presented with the idea of teaching the family, rather than providing instructions to professional nurses. Each technique is presented in an outline form.
