This first in-depth exploration of Art and Design in Glasgow around 1900 was presented to the Van Gogh Museum by the Glasgow Museum and Art Galleries as a counterpart to the exhibition 'Van Gogh and his time', which was shown in Glasgow in 1990. In addition to catalog texts with images (most in color) of all 116 exhibited works, biographies and photographs of all 38 represented artists are included in the accompanying book. Three accompanying articles elucidate the role of several important art collectors for the artistic climate in Glasgow around 1900, the painting in Glasgow from 1850-1900 and finally the 'Glasgow Style' in applied arts from 1880-1914. With this, among other things, the broader context of the work of Glasgow's most famous Art Nouveau artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, is presented. The English-language catalog is extremely well designed and scientifically very responsible for accessibility for a large audience.
